Physical Wellness


Mission Statement
The mission of the Wahconah Physical Wellness Department is to engage our students in a variety of activities that promote life-long physical and emotional well-being so our students will improve their mind, body and spirit.

Given this environment the Physical Wellness Instructors recognize that:
Through properly planned lessons with clear objectives and goals each student will be encouraged to work to the best of their ability and to make educated decisions with an understanding of the anticipated consequences and rewards.
Through activity each and every student can develop practical, academic and interpersonal skills as well as improve their quality of life through physical activity.
Each student will have different needs and skill levels yet they need to learn to respect not only their own, but also the strengths and weaknesses of their peers.

Acceptable Clothing
Sneakers, running shoes, tennis shoes, basketball, etc. are acceptable, however, they must be non-marking and completely cover your foot. No platforms shoes are allowed.    
T-Shirts, sweat-shirts, tank tops, etc. are acceptable.  Button shirts are not acceptable.   
Shorts, sweat pants, athletic pants, etc. are acceptable.  No jeans, dockers, skirts, etc.  Clothing needs to fit, and can't be a safety issue for you or anyone else.      
Should not be worn in class.  Items that are small or not seen are not necessarily an issue, but nothing unsafe to you or anyone else is allowed.      
If we are going outside and you would like to wear a jacket or sweatshirt, etc. you need to bring it to class, on time.  We can not allow you to go back to your locker.      
Medical Excuse Policy:    
If you need to be medically excused from class for one day a parent or the nurse may write you a note.  If you need to be out for more than one class a doctor's note is necessary.  When you are medically excused it is the same as being absent.  The instructor will  require you to do a handout relating to Physical Wellness for that class and that will count as your day's participation.  For extended medical problems it may become necessary to withdraw from the course.  If a doctor excuses you from class we can not allow you to return until the doctor clears you.

September/early Oct:
      Tennis and flag football
mid October/Nov:
      Lacrosse and yoga
late November:
      Jogging, gymnastics, weight room, indoor games
      Badminton and freshmen health
      Basketball, aerobics, freshmen health
      Volleyball and freshmen health
      Table tennis/archery (indoors) and jogging/track & field (outdoors)
      Floor hockey and self defense
      Hiking, golf and softball
